Our Story

Custom Kreations, Inc. is a family owned operation that began in 1986. Steve Huben began operations as a cabinet shop that he opened in a garage next to his house soon after he graduated high school. His brother, Pat Huben, joined his operations in the ’90’s and together they have been working to produce quality homes. Steve is the initial person you will meet when you call for a consultation. He is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of building and remodeling and will provide you with some awesome ideas. He also is our estimator, floor plan designer, and project manager. You will find Pat displaying his talents by working at the job-site and co-managing the projects. They are both available at any time to discuss the projects.

Custom Kreations, Inc. has two locations; Seymour and Mountain, Wisconsin. Specializing in your dream home or second home.

Steve was President of the Brown County Home Builders Association in 2011 and continues to serve on several committees on the local and state level.

First, we would like to thank everyone associated with the CKI team, they are great!! When my wife Sue and I started to think about building a new home, the first thing that entered our mind was fear. Fear from friends that have built new homes and had nothing but bad experiences. We can truly say that was not the case building with Steve and the other members of CKI. Our experience from start to finish was nothing but a pleasant one. Most of all, CKI made it enjoyable. We have been in our new home since early spring and every day when we look at our home we are still in awe of how it turned out. It’s better than we ever could have imagined. It is just perfect. We love it! CKI is the type of builder that you can truly call your friends. They help provide new ideas. But, most important of all, they listen to what you want. We would recommend Steve and the rest of the CKI team to anyone. They have made our building experience and especially our new home a wonderful one. Thanks again.

We have had the privilege of Custom Kreations, Inc. build us two homes. Each time they have exceeded all our expectations, they are a family business that puts their heart and soul into each home they build. Custom Kreations, Inc. is currently building our house in Howard and we are grateful for Lisa’s expertise with Universal Design. She has been an integral part of our experience and even let us visit previous projects so we could sample lighting hands on. She’s done her research regarding my conditions and has suggested numerous inventive and workable solutions that we are incorporating into our new home. At our first meeting, Steve told us he likes to plan an addition or remodel to look like it was always there. Not something added or changed. We feel Custom Kreations represents a high standard for quality. The Custom Kreations crew and sub-contractors are of this same standard. All worked safely, motivated (hard working) friendly, tidy and all on schedule. Denise showed us a lot of options to get to know our taste. Then narrowed things down for us. Having things at the shop was good. Not having to drive all over, pricing and comparing helped keep us close to budget and kept us working with businesses and material of your standard and reputation. Thank you Denise. You all became extended family helping us get through the remodel, the upside down life, and answering questions. Everyone is so very friendly. We are so pleased with the quality of ideas, planning and coordination Custom Kreations did resulting in our beautiful remodel. Now it’s time to enjoy.
In a situation where I felt hopeless about our kitchen remodel, Custom Kreations gave me hope. They had awesome and quick feedback, responses and suggestions. They met with me, took my ideas and budget and were willing to work with us. Their work was done in a timely manner and any little things that I noticed, like little holes or gaps were fixed immediately. We really had a great experience with Custom Kreations and would highly recommend them. We absolutely love our kitchen. It looks beautiful!
Working with Custom Kreations made our project of window and door replacements seem effortless. The installers arrived promptly each day. They were friendly, informative about how and why they were doing what they did. Such as removing siding to replace the patio door and kitchen windows. When they discovered the front door was the incorrect width, they had already contacted Pete from Seymour Lumber to get the correct size. (We needed a 4” and were sent a 6” door). If this notice had not been mentioned by our sub-contractors, we would not have known. We have recommended Custom Kreations to several others and will continue to do so. Keep up the excellent work!
We felt compelled to drop you folks a quick note of gratitude for the fantastic job your team did with our recent remodel of our homes lower level with the addition of our bar, cabinets and display cabinets.It began with your team’s engagement and conception of ideas on what would be possible in our defined space, where the design would add a rustic ambiance, seating and interaction that we envisioned for this room. Plans were then developed and Jason, with Steve, reviewed the entire design onsite with us so we knew exactly what was being proposed as well as what our final cost would be so there would be no surprises. We also had required a timely completion of our project as we planned to use it for the first time with our family at Christmas so it meant we would need the schedule held with a firm deadline. December came and so did your team of professionals led by Jason. They arrived as scheduled and from the first knock on the door, they executed with promptness, professionalism and courtesy taking extreme care as they navigated through our home with all the new cabinets and construction materials. The project was completed on schedule, on budget and best of all the quality of craftsmanship and design elements created the exact environment that we had originally envisioned! Our first Christmas party in the new bar was a fantastic success and the new remodel lived up to everyone’s expectations. All we ask is that you please share this feedback with all your team members who worked on our project and for doing an excellent job. Please thank them on our behalf.

My husband and I did a first floor remodel with Custom Kreations, Inc. in the winter of 2018. We moved the master bedroom to the first floor, added a bathroom and laundry room. We also eliminated our formal dining room and reconfigured the kitchen layout.

We spent about 5 years deciding what we wanted to do and spoke with multiple contractors. We decided on Custom Kreations, Inc. because they were great people to talk with and had seen their work multiple times. My husband was impressed with the finishing work that was done by them.

Our remodel was scheduled for 10 weeks, but done in eight. We were in constant communication with them and were never made to feel that our concerns were not important. Everyone on the staff was helpful. There was a major design change when we made our master bathroom handicap accessible, but stayed on budget and it turned out fabulous. The designer was great in helping us pick out items that looked great together and were our style.

I consider Pat, Steve, Lisa and Denise my friends. I would definitely recommend Custom Kreations, Inc. to anyone. The remodel went great and we could not be happier with the results.

It always seems people comment when things happen that are negative, so we wanted to comment on this very positive experience.

Overall, our remodel/addition experience was great. There was a delay with getting the permits (nothing CKI could control), however after that everything “rolled along”.

Through the whole process, all employees where very professional and respective. This includes the sub-contractors Steve hired. It just wasn’t his crew. That is a characteristic not seen often enough!

I cannot say enough about Denise, the Interior Designer. She is a true gem!! She worked with us to develop the style we were looking for with the remodel. She was open to all ideas and finding a solution that would work. I am a very visual person and she always made sure she showed me a sample or did a drawing so I could understand what we were talking about. She is very busy, but if we had an appointment, she made me feel like I were her only customer. If she didn’t know the answer to a question, she would say so and go check with whoever it was necessary to obtain the answer.

All staff and sub-contractors gave ideas that helped to make our home more functional or to give us more space. This was true in our cabin’s entry way, kitchen and bathroom. If we couldn’t do an idea we wanted to do, due to the homes previous design, they gave other ideas trying to make what we wanted work.

Towards the end of the remodel when there was only a few things to fix or touch up, Pat would come out and take care of it. He too was very friendly and professional. I cannot say enough about the whole crew and staff. Denise was with me when I told a new neighbor who has a lot next to our lake home about CKI. I will use your company again in a heartbeat. Keep up the great work and always putting the customer first.

My big fear during the whole process was that the old cabin and the new addition would not blend. I didn’t want it to be obvious where the old cabin ended and the new began. Custom Kreations, Inc. did a beautiful job blending the old with the new, not just in the kitchen but throughout the dining area and into the living room. Guests coming to our new lake home have commented on the wonderful job they did with blending the whole cabin together.

Each person was patient, and understanding from start to finish. As challenges arose, you and your staff found solutions and offered suggestions to improve our choices.

A special thank you to Pat Huben and his carpenters for installing all the large barn beams and wonderful woodworking finishes throughout the house. Jason and the talented people in your cabinet shop did an amazing job and completely understood what we were looking for. Also Denise kept everything organized and on time and was so generous with her time and decorating talent, and Lisa did an accurate and timely job of issuing refund checks for personal purchases that were made.

Valerie Neal of Greensboro has been styling hair professionally for over 25 years. She has been a salon owner for ten years, and in just six years of operation, she has shaped Shear Kreations into one of Greensboro’s best salons.

After graduating from James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, Neal enrolled at North Carolina A & T State University. While there she says she realized her true passion was to style hair, and as fate would have it she enrolled at Leons Beauty School as a cosmetology student. After graduating, Neal says she found her niche and the rest is history.

“Being a cosmetologist/salon owner is an abundance of work,” says Neal. “You have to be there when no one else is and when something goes wrong it all falls on you.” She credits much of her success to the individuals and clients who have faithfully supported Shear Kreations. Randy Currence of Dudley Products and Wilbert Artis, who owns Influance Hair Care, Neal says has encouraged and advised her through difficult moments of operating her business.

Neal has a sincere passion for helping people. She volunteers and mentors other stylist. She says she is only concerned with doing what God has in store for her. She has managed and directed Shear Kreations into a place where everyone is considered to be family, including both clients and stylist.
As the northeastern side of Greensboro continues to thrive, Neal and her staff are prepared to accommodate new and existing clients. Complementing Neal are Veronica McNair, Shonda Herbin, and Sharlene Peebles. As they remain committed to providing the best service, the Shear Kreations team are constantly refreshing their skill sets with updated instruction to keep them abreast with the latest styles and trends.

Veronica McNair received her formal instruction at Dudley Cosmetology University. She says her specialty is Healthy Hair. “It doesn’t matter the cut or style, it is the healthy hair underneath that counts,” says McNair. She finds enjoyment in making her clients smile by providing them with the highest quality of service available.

After Shonda Herbin graduated from Reidsville High School in Rockingham County, she added to her accomplishments by successfully completing the cosmetology program at Leons Beauty School. She says her life and career has been impacted by several women in the Reidsville community including Evette Harden, Dawn Davis, and Sylvia Pinnix. She describes herself as someone who is reliable, appreciated, and understanding. These are qualities that any successful stylist must have and provide to their clients.

Sharlene Peebles attended Davidson County Community College in 1995. For the past 16 years she has been serving the Piedmont Triad area residents. The freedom of self employment and the wonderful group of professional stylists that she is blessed to work alongside of is what Peebles says make her job enjoyable. “I have learned that in order for me to succeed in my career, I must make it happen for myself,” she says.
